Abide in the Word

  • John 8:31-32

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

Read Scripture:
Read: James 1:1-4
We will be looking at this passage next week as we start our new series in James.

Studies show that Christians begin to be transformed by the Bible when they spend time in the Word at least four times a week. Make this your goal going forward, abide in God’s Word at least four times this next week.

Here’s a quick guide about how to develop this habit.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Questions:
1) What did the Holy Spirit highlight for you during this teaching? Why?
Journal your thoughts and/or share this with someone else.

2) Have you made reading God’s Word a daily part of your life? If not, make a plan to spend time God’s Word at least four days this next week. Share this plan with someone and ask them to check in with you regularly to see if you’re following through on your plan.

Prayer:
God, thank you for all of the faithful Christians who have come before us that have preserved your written word for us. Help us not take that for granted. Compel each of us to get into your Word, to make that a priority in our lives. Reveal more of who you are to us, and as we read... help us not be merely ‘hearers’ of your word but to be ‘doers’ of your word.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
