Carry or Cast?

  • In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

SPIRITUAL PRACTICES

Read 1 Peter 5:8-11, four times this next week.
Use the ‘O.I.A.’ Study method to look at 1 Peter 5:8-11

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Personal Reflection Questions:

  1. What’s the dress code that Paul talks about?

  2. What do you need to cast off and rely on the ‘mighty hand of God’?

Group Reflection Questions:

  1. Consider all of Ch. 5, what is Peter saying to older Christians in the church, younger Christians in the church, and to everyone?

  2. How does operating out of a humble posture change the way you approach God? Fellow Christians? Everyone?

  3. Pray for one another’s anxieties. Consider strategically placing the words ‘He cares for you.’ somewhere you will see it each day this next week.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank you for your word to us, thank you for revealing yourself to us. Help us to learn what it means to submit to one another, teach is what humility looks like. Draw us deeper into reliance on you.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Take some time to sit silently before God.

What action will you take this week because of what you heard from the Lord during the teaching of His Word?
