Just a Little While

  • John 12:35-36, 46

Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Personal Reflection Questions:

  1. In John 12:35, Jesus cries out, "The light will be among you just a little while.” How does the reframing of life as ‘just a little while’ impact your daily choices, priorities, and interactions with others?

  2. In verse 46, Jesus states, "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me may remain in darkness." What areas of your life are still in ‘darkness’? Confess these to Jesus, allow his light to expose these areas.

Group Reflection Questions:

  1. What’s the darkest physical place you’ve been? Share these stories with one another.

  2. As a group, discuss ‘walking in the light’. What keeps you from walking in the light? Share strategies you’ve used to navigate your way out of the darkness and into the light.

  3. Jesus came into the world to drive away darkness. As followers of Christ, you are also lights in the world around you. Discuss how you can share that light in a dark and hurting world. What are some practical steps your group can take to share Christ with others?
