Light in the Darkness

  • In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Personal Reflection Questions:

  1. How does the phrase "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" impact your view of Jesus Christ?

  2. In verse 4, it says, "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind." Reflect on how the life and light of Jesus has changed your own life.

Have you allowed the light of Jesus impact your daily decisions, relationships, and priorities? Consider areas of your life you still need to surrender to the power of Christ's light.

  3. What action will you take this week because of what you heard from the Lord during the teaching of His Word?

Group Reflection Questions:

  1. As a group, discuss the significance of the term "the Word" in John 1:1-5. How does this concept interact with the broader biblical narrative? How does this passage shape your faith and understanding of God.

  2. As a group, share personal experiences of how the life and light of Jesus Christ have made a difference in your lives.

After sharing, spend time in prayer, thanking God for the work he has begun in each of your lives. If there are areas where darkness still has a foothold, lift one another in prayer.
